How to play The Late Commute
✍ The Engine
Below every scene is a review box. That box is the product. You rate what you just read. You say what landed and what didn't. You suggest a fix, ask for a new branch, or tell us what should happen next. The AI team reads it, edits the tree, and your changes become the world — usually within minutes, for every player who comes after you.
This isn't a suggestion box that someone might check next quarter. It's the engine. You're holding the pen while the writers sharpen it for you.
How to write a review that gets applied
Be specific. “This is bad” gets you nowhere. “Kael was introduced as scarred and weary at the gate, but two scenes later he's described as clean-faced and cheerful — can we make him consistent? The scarred version is better” — that gets applied. Name the nodes if you can. Describe what you saw. Say what you want instead. Explain why.
A vague complaint touches one node. A well-argued review can rewrite twenty.
What you can ask for:
- Fix this scene — a bad simile, a pronoun that drifted, a sentence that clunks. Typical turnaround: under a minute.
- Add a choice — “swing at the Shadow Stalker's skull” was a player suggestion. So was the rosemary travel bread.
- Retcon something — character name changed, rule contradiction fixed, vanished item restored. The triage agent greps the whole tree and rewrites every node that touches it.
- Build new frontier — hit an unwritten scene? Say what you want. Wolves in a ravine? A goblin named Pickles? Your suggestion seeds a real scene within minutes. The Ravine Ambush and The Caravan Clash both started as player ideas.
- Tree-wide canon changes — weight 10.0 only. Reshape world rules. Convenes the full Evil Council. Nobody's hit this from organic play yet, but the plumbing is armed.
Trust weight
Every player has a trust weight from 1.0 to 10.0. It rises with every review the AI team acts on — about 200–300 reviews to reach 10.0. The owner can fast-track you if you're putting in real work.
