How to play The Late Commute

✍ The Engine

Below every scene is a review box. That box is the product. You rate what you just read. You say what landed and what didn't. You suggest a fix, ask for a new branch, or tell us what should happen next. The AI team reads it, edits the tree, and your changes become the world — usually within minutes, for every player who comes after you.

This isn't a suggestion box that someone might check next quarter. It's the engine. You're holding the pen while the writers sharpen it for you.

How to write a review that gets applied

Be specific. “This is bad” gets you nowhere. “Kael was introduced as scarred and weary at the gate, but two scenes later he's described as clean-faced and cheerful — can we make him consistent? The scarred version is better” — that gets applied. Name the nodes if you can. Describe what you saw. Say what you want instead. Explain why.

A vague complaint touches one node. A well-argued review can rewrite twenty.

What you can ask for:

Trust weight

Every player has a trust weight from 1.0 to 10.0. It rises with every review the AI team acts on — about 200–300 reviews to reach 10.0. The owner can fast-track you if you're putting in real work.

Weight What you unlock
1.0 Play, review scenes, seed frontier ideas. Guests get 10 reviews/day; friend codes are unlimited.
2.0 Blue mist markers on frontier choices — see where the world hasn’t been built.
3.0 Frontier authoring (/write_scene) — build the next scene on unwritten branches. Triage replies address you by name.
4.0 First bonus (purple ★) choices appear. Character retcons — rename a character or fix a trait tree-wide; the triage agent handles it.
5.0 Branch retcons — “this choice should’ve gone differently,” up to 50 downstream nodes; larger changes escalate to council.
7.0 More bonus choices. Map expands to 2,500 nodes. Council auto-escalation on low ratings.
9.0 Final bonus choices. Council spectator mode — read past transcripts. Priority regen on your active routes.
10.0 ★ Hidden keepsake gallery. All bonus choices. Highest triage priority. Tree-wide canon changes. Map unlimited.

Friend codes get unlimited reviews, no daily cap. Guests get 10 reviews/day. Drop a follow @Mike15542142460 on X and we'll slide you a free friend code.

Map & navigation

🗺 The map IS your save system. Your journey fans out from the first scene at the center. Golden dots are scenes you've visited; tap any to rewind there instantly. Colored lines show which realm you're in (blue Earth, orange Solara, teal Eldoria, purple Valoria, rose Aethelgard, olive Ironwood) — colors only appear for realms you've reached.

↶↷ Back and forward. The teal back button steps to your last choice. On a phone, swipe right to go back, swipe left to go forward.

🌱 Begin a new life sends you to scene one but keeps your map, bookmarks, trust weight, and inbox. On death screens, rewind to your last fork. Every death is survivable.

Toolbar: ✉ inbox (AI replies land here), 🔖 journal (bookmarks), 🗺 map, ☀️/☾ light/dark toggle. Scenes are short and punchy — about 400 characters each. You're meant to steer, not soak.

Other things to know

⭐ ⚠ 😴 One-tap signals. Below every scene: favorite, confused, or bored. No explanation needed — these go straight to the writers.

🌬 Mist markers. Weight 2.0+ sees blue markers on frontier choices — you know where the world hasn't been built before you click.

★ Bonus choices. Purple choices on some scenes starting at weight 4.0+. Alternate paths, hidden content, easter eggs. More unlock at 7.0 and 9.0.

🔒 Node locks. After 10 distinct players review a scene, it locks — community-vetted prose. You can still leave comments and signals.

💬 Comments. Every scene has a comment thread. Other players see them. Be decent.
